MONSIEUR RESTAURANT

Feast Your Way through the French Countryside without Leaving Paris

At Hotel Lancaster's Monsieur Restaurant

The Lancaster was originally built as a mansion by a Spanish nobleman in 1889 and converted to a luxury hotel by eminent hotelier, Emile Wolfe in 1930.  The hotel opened to great acclaim hosting celebrities from around the world.  One of the early guests was the well know Russian painter, Boris Pastoukhoff, who donated many of his paintings for his frequent stays which grace the walls of the hotel to this day.  Marlene Dietrich ensconced herself in one of the hotel suites for 3 years

One of Marlene’s personal friends, known fondly just as Monsieur, had a passion for cooking and Paris.  However he loved the countryside as well and set off to explore all the different regions recounting his culinary adventures, the different tastes, the different wines and the different landscapes upon his return.  Not content with words he set about recreating the many different dishes using produce from each region and serving them especially to her.

In this tradition Monsieur Restaurant has been created at Hotel Lancaster serving seasonal, regional and authentic French countryside cuisine sourcing fresh ingredients from each locality.

Each month a different region is celebrated for guests to discover and savor combining both simple and complex tastes filled with countryside conviviality.  Patrons of the restaurant have a chance to experience the delight of each different area without traveling out of Paris.

The mix of authenticity and glamour in the décor coupled with warm and friendly staff make the Hotel Lancaster a refuge in the heart of bustling Paris.

OUR MAÎTRE SOMMELIER'S EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

JEAN-LUC JAMROZIK

What is on the Lancaster wine menu ?

Wines from around the world, but French vineyards have pride of place. At the Bar or La Table, Chablis is one of the favorite wines of our guests from the USA or other English-speaking countries, who love chardonnays from Burgundy : Chablis from Domaine Raveneau from Louis Michel or Benoît Drouin,Pouilly-Fumé from Benjamin Dagueneau– the Silex or Pur-sang vintages – or from Michel Redde – whose Majorum is exceptional. In Spring time, Provence offers marvelous wines to enjoy on the patio or at La Table: the region invented gastronomic rosés such as Domaine de Trevallon, the wine of Roselyne Gavoty and Château de Pibarnon.

The prestigious Grands Crus of Bordeaux, Bourgogne and Champagne are not to be missed, but to enjoy something different one must sample the superlative white and red wines from Corsica: Clos Nicrosi or Domaine Pieretti from Coteaux du Cap Corse, Clos Colombu from Calvi, Clos Canarelli from Figari, Clos Capitiro from Ajaccio…Whatever the occasion at La Table, or Le Bar…we must never forget that the right choice is the wine that will provide our customer the greatest satisfaction.

What was the last wine you tasted that truly moved you ?

A Château Haut-Brion 1940, opened with others sommeliers. An exceptional achievement for the vintage, yhe wine was harvested and produced by women, due to the war. A distinctive wine with a moving story!

IN THE HEART OF THE LANCASTER

LE MARLENE

THE LANCASTER'S BAR

Plush, contemporary and bright, Le Marlène has the feel and charm of the 1930’s. It’s an oasis of calm a stone’s throw from the Champs-Elysées, but if you speak « Fashion », it transforms into a bustling hive of activity.

How would you describe the personnality of Le Marlène ?

It depends. Mornings are often calm offering an opportune time to take a Parisian Coffee Breakfast or for discussions and intimate conversations. Le Marlène is located in the heart of the house. It opens onto the light-filled and lush patio. It’s a restful place. At 11 h, the  tables come to life. You can enjoy some snacks, and tapas prepared by our  team. In the afternoon it turns into an unconventional tearoom, with a wonderful home made hot chocolate and later plays host to lovers of cocktails and stronger drinks.

THE BAR IS OPEN EVERYDAY FROM 7:00 TO MIDNIGHT
